In this book, the audience learns that Butter has an extreme infatuation for the beautiful, and popular, Anna McGuff. The only people that seem to care for him are his mother, the Professor (who is the high school band teacher), and Tucker, a distanced friend from "fat camp." He doesn't speak with his father he doesn't speak with anyone at school he's feels like he's worth nothing because of his obesity. One of the biggest problems Butter has in the book is socializing. At the beginning of the book, he goes into detail about his extreme weight issues, and how difficult everything is when you're "fat". It's categorized as Realistic Fiction because it includes elements that could happen in modern life, but all the while it is still fiction. The main character in this book is known as "Butter." He was given his nick-name in his freshman year of high school when multiple bullies forced him to eat a stick of butter, or else the rest of his high school years would be a "living nightmare." Because of this incident, everyone in the town knew him as "Butter."Įver since he could remember, Butter was always overweight. Butter, written by Erin Jade Lange, is a book about a lonely, overweight high school boy who only wants to fit in.
